Twenty five employees from Meadow Foods, the UK’s largest independent dairy and leading supplier of milk and dairy ingredients to the food industry, completed the Three Peaks challenge over the weekend to raise over £26,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity Meadow Foods has supported for many years.
The walkers battled wind, rain and even snow whilst climbing the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. The team commenced the gruelling task from the base of Ben Nevis on a sunny Friday afternoon and after a tough ascent were greeted with snow at the peak. Once they had conquered the first mountain, the group were driven through the night to Scafell Pike. Before sunrise, equipped with head torches and without sleep, the Meadow Foods group set off on their second ascent. The team reached the peak of Scafell before 8am and immediately descended ready for their final climb. The concluding mountain, Snowdon, presented the most difficult weather conditions for the team to overcome but on Saturday evening they emerged from the wind and rain to complete their challenge.
David Farrer, the Meadow Foods team captain comments: “It was a tough yet incredibly rewarding experience, not only was it physically demanding but mentally draining due to the lack of sleep. The amount of support we received has been fantastic and this really boosted morale right to the very end”.
