Meadow Foods, the UK’s leading independent dairy group, has announced that it is increasing the milk price it pays producers by 1 pence per litre (ppl) from 1st July.
The increase will be added to the flat rate element of the price paid to farmers and will therefore benefit all 520 of Meadow’s dairy farmers, regardless of their specific contract.
It takes Meadow’s price above 24ppl, a move which the company hopes will inject some further positive momentum into the market and encourage others to come forward with similar increases.
Simon Chantler, Meadow Foods’ Executive Chairman, said “We will continue to work hard to sustain and further improve on this price increase but our best efforts will not be sufficient toachieve this unless the market as a whole moves upwards.”
Meadow Foods is the UK’s leading independent dairy group, with total sales in excess of £260 million. The business supplies milk and balancing services to the premium liquid milk industry. It also has an ingredients division supplying cream, butter, sweetened condensed milk, Anhydrous Milk Fat, chocolate crumb and cultured dairy products to blue chip food manufacturers from three well-invested manufacturing sites in Chester, Peterborough and Yorkshire.
