Meadow Foods, the UK’s largest independent dairy and leading supplier of milk based dairy ingredients to the food industry, has announced new packaging for its 13kg Sweetened Condensed Milk & Skim from poly bottles to a bag-in-the box format.
The packaging format, filled without any air inclusion into Low Density Poly Ethylene (LDPE) bags has a multitude of benefits over the older Poly Bottle Packaging:
The Extended Shelf Life (ESL) Filler will increase the product’s shelf life from eight weeks to six months. This increased shelf life will allow customers to better manage their stocks and will enable customers to order larger drop sizes bringing a saving in transport costs.
Secondly, changing to the LDPE bags will help reduce the carbon footprint of the product as, when flattened, it will take up less than 10% of the space of a used HDPE bottle, and will therefore be easier and cheaper to dispose of.
Thirdly, as Sweetened Condensed Milk is very viscous and sticky, an added advantage is that it will be easier and quicker to extract the product from the new LDPE bags and less will be wasted. The bags will also be re-sealable and will be able to stand alone outside the box, benefitting customers who do not allow corrugated cardboard in production areas.
John Lambert, Commercial Director at Meadow Foods, comments: “We are always looking at ways of improving our products and packaging. By switching our Sweetened Condensed Milk & Skim to LDPE bags it will bring improvements and savings to our customers through both the manufacturing process and the environment.”
Meadow Foods is currently the only manufacturer of bulk Sweetened Condensed Milk in the UK.
