Meadow Foods, the UK’s largest independent dairy and leading supplier of milk based dairy ingredients to the food industry, has started work on a major project to expand their milk processing and butter production facilities at Chester.
The first phase of the expansion will see the demolition of old buildings, to make way for an extension to the company’s offices, new changing facilities, canteen and First Aid room. Meadow Foods will also construct a new staff car park and a truck park with refuelling and washing facilities for delivery vehicles.
Chester is the largest of Meadow Foods’ three sites, which between them handle 560M ltrs of milk per year, sourced from around 600 dairy farmers from across the UK. The completed building works will see an additional 5,500sqm of processing and storage facilities.
Simon Chantler, Executive Chairman at Meadow Foods, comments: “We are delighted to have started work on developing our Chester site. The work, which will be undertaken in two phases, will allow us to grow our operations and diversify our business lines. It’s also good news for the local area as it provides an even bigger outlet for local dairy farmers by increasing our manufacturing capabilities.”
Meadow Foods operates from factories in Chester, Peterborough and Holme-on-Spalding Moor, their products include cream, butter, sweetened condensed milk, anhydrous milk fat, chocolate crumb and cultured products. The company, founded in 1992, now employs more than 250 people and has a turnover in excess of £340m.
